                  "Open sesame!"

It was since the early 1980s that I began to use quadrangles in my paintings.

Facing the work in progress, I was tired at my living-alone apartment house.

When I happened to look at the front door, I got the inspiration from the door repaired with plates.

The broken glass of the door was repaired by putting up two plates.

Two quadrangles in my painting expressed two repair plates.

A door is both a barrier and a way to the other side.

I wanted it to stand in front of people facing my painting.

And I wished it would lead them to another world.

The object was neither only a barrier nor only a tool which offers illusion.

I think this proposition has been the index of my works although not expressed with words.

I have chosen one belt and two squares as the motifs of my works since the 1990s.

They were born for my facing paintings head on.

The simple pictorial expression with a center is an expression of my desire to speak plainly.

The vision is attracted by a central element at first if a painting has it, and then covers the whole screen.

I thought its moving between the central element and its circumference, further also the whole screen,

attracts the eyes in an instant and makes their seeing continue.

Moreover, while gazing at a screen for a long time, the four corners of the screen are getting roundish gradually.

That is visual desire and is for making the totality of a screen having a central element clear.

Between the desire to face this motif having a strong power to attract because of its simpleness and to be freed from it, I have worked.

Change of color and the Partin of colors are making my interest continue.

Various elements are contained in work of painting.

Selection of materials, harmony of colors, form and rhythm, portion and integrality,

and feeling induced by them.

I think that facing concrete problems of painting is related to everyday life

and experiencing the various appearances and secrets of the world.

Because to tackle them concretely is an experience of touching the world directly with my feeling and thinking.

The solution of problems I say is that these elements are useful to one another.

That means they get vivid on a screen.

When the screen gets vivid and viewers recognize joy of living, the way to understanding (secrets) of the world will be opened.
